I am so disappointed that this author chose 'cliff hang' 30 days and then want $4.99 for a few more chapters...not cool. 30 days was pretty good, too.

Not as good as I had hoped.

Because they could have added a couple chapters to 30 Days and done it all in one book. The second book was a poor sequel to 30 Days, which was wonderful. I was disappointed in Committed because it lacked the page turning suspense of its predecessor.

The Eyewitness series is beautifully illustrated and meticulously researched.
It combines extensive art history with politics and all of the important movements of the time period.
I cannot recommend this book too highly-you will find your self using it over and over.

This is a lovely book with lots of information and lovely illustrations. I just wish I had noticed it only has 63 pages. It is a pricey book so I didn't feel it was worth the money. I will probably be returning it.

Fabulous book!

Great practical advice for any clinician, lay person, or pastor. If you are human you will eventually have contact with someone in crisis. This is a great guide for anyone who simply wants to better care for someone going through a major event in their life. It will certainly enhance your practice - whether you are a novice or expert. Clear, concise, and practical (I know, I have already said practical, but really - it is!).

Crisis Counseling

In a well known passage of the New Testament Jesus declares "In this world you will have trouble" (John 16.33). For most this is an obvious statement as they have endured abuse, assault, miscarriage or death. What comfort can there be when the bottom falls out? There's more to John 16.33 than the sentence quoted above. Jesus continues and says "But take heart! I have overcome the world." Jesus has conquered that very system which opposes God and brings trouble on man. Yet, as Jesus modeled for us, there is more to comforting those that hurt than spiritual platitudes. So, how do we minister with compassion in the knowledge of Jesus' overcoming of the world?

Scott Floyd has provided counselors and ministers with a valuable resource for their ministry. Floyd is currently a teaching fellow at the B.H. Carroll Theological Institute in Arlington, TX. He was involved in counseling the survivors of the shootings at Wedgewood Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. He has written Crisis Counseling to serve as a manual for counselors and pastors to care for their people.

He begins by providing four separate chapters defining Crisis, Trauma, Loss, and Grief. It's important for us to have a clear understanding of these terms and experiences in order to help those experiencing them. From here he provides a model for helping and strategies to intevene in the midst of particular crises. The book also gives additional resources for identifying symptoms of particular problems faced by those who have gone through trauma. He also gives a listing of denominational crisis resources.

Floyd has given ministers an important resource for tending the flock which God has entrusted to them. We all experience trouble. But, it's necessary that pastors and counselors have the skills and insight necessary to deal with difficult and troubling circumstances. This will prove to be a go-to manual for crisis situations for me and I would recommend it to anyone involve in Christian leadership!

Colonel Sanders and the KFC Empire

Secret Recipe is a book that offers a good, historical breakdown of the Kentucky Fried Chicken company and the individuals who built the restaurant into the thriving business that it remains today. Darden tries to cover all the important bases, from the original restaurant that opened in Corbin, Kentucky, all the way to the present day business, owned and operating by Tricon, Inc.

I really enjoyed all the facts that this book contains. Until I read this book, I did not know that it was Pete Harman who thought of the name, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and I didn't know that Harman dreamed up the idea of selling buckets of chicken. Like most people, I assumed that the Colonel himself deserved credit for these business discoveries. After reading about the naming of the restaurant, I sure am glad that Harman had the necessary business sense to reject the restaurant name "Utah Chicken". It just doesn't sound right. It makes about as much sense as the "Utah Jazz". This is just oen of many facts discussed in this book.

Throughout the pages of this book, the author includes important quotes that are highlighted in a gray box, set aside from the regular text. There are also a few lists of facts here and there such as "Early Franchise Holders" and "The Colonel's Appearances on Television". You can also find text boxes on many pages titled "Pete's Words of Wisdom", which include quotes from Harman on successful restaurant operation.

One other important note to make about this book is that it was written as a historical summary of the KFC business as a whole. It isn't a biographical sketch of Colonel Sanders. Author Robert Darden does make frequent mention of the Colonel, as he should. But there's just as much coverage given to Pete Harman and other people who were instrumental to the success of this business.

Colonel Sanders has been gone now for more than two decades. Much of his original vision of what a restaurant should be has changed over the years. Even the name of the restaurant has changed from Kentucky Fried Chicken to the abbreviated KFC. But one thing that hasn't gone by the wayside is the image of Colonel Sanders. His familiar, smiling face remains a part of the KFC restaurant chain and is displayed on KFC merchandise and around each KFC store unit. It's a tribute to the man and the legend known as Colonel Harland Sanders. His finger lickin' good original recipe of herbs and spices has satisfied chicken lovers all over the world for more than half a century. And this book is equally satisfying, full of trivia and historical accounts of the KFC company and its rise to the top of its restaurant class.

KCF will always be cookin'

KFC has a great history and its development is a wonderful addition to any study of the fast food industry. I recommend this book in conjunction with Behind the Arches. For those who love the Colonel and want to learn more about the man, the myth, and the legend they can get it all here. The growth of the company and strategy for deployment are all clearly explained. IT is very well written and I enjoyed the anecdotes along the way.

This book provides great insight into the real story behind KFC. Especially entertaining for those that are familiar with KFC, the organization, the franchises, and the restaurant business. Goes into the philosophies of Pete Harman, the first, biggest and most influencial franchisee. Talks alot about the company, the growth, the growing pains, and what made the company successful.

About the Author

John McKittrick is a highly respected international Rugby Sevens coach.

Tony Williams has written 18 rugby books including biographies of All Black legends Sean Fitzpatrick, Zinzan Brooke, Michael Jones, Ian Jones, Frank Bunce and Carlos Spencer; profiles of each of the New Zealand Super Rugby teams; and co-authored four editions of Rugby Skills Tactics and Rules.

Eric Rush is a Sevens legend. He represented New Zealand for 17 years and, as captain, led the team to a Gold Medal at the 1998 and 2002 Commonwealth Games, the World Sevens Series Title for six consecutive years, and the Sevens World Cup championship in 2001.
