He is currently a full-time professor of mathematics at Joliet Junior College. Michael has numerous textbooks in publication, including an Introductory Statistics series, and a Precalculus series, which he writes with his father, Michael Sullivan. Michael believes that his experiences writing texts for college-level math and statistics courses give him a unique perspective as to where students are headed once they leave the developmental mathematics tract. This experience is reflected in the philosophy and presentation of his developmental text series. When not in the classroom or writing, Michael enjoys spending time with his three children, Michael, Kevin, and Marissa, and playing golf. Now that his two sons are getting older, he has the opportunity to do both at the same time! Kathy Struve, "Columbus State Community College
"Kathy Struve has been a classroom teacher for nearly 25 years, first at the high school level, and, for the past 13 years, at Columbus State Community College. Kathy emphasizes classroom diversity: diversity of age, learning styles, and previous learning success. She is aware of the challenges of teaching mathematics at a large, urban community college, where students have varied mathematics backgrounds, and may enter college with a high level of mathematics anxiety. It's a Statistics book. That is all.

It's what I needed for this semester. I don't mind the highlighting, but the binder it came in could have been better. I bought it used. Be aware, this is the unbound version meant for binders. Surprised it came with the CD when I bought it! Nice save, seller!

Essential Guidebook

Clearly outlines the roles and responsibilities of a CFO. I needed this guidance as I go out on my own and sell services to small to mid-sized businesses who don't have a CFO and never really thought of it. For me, the critical point is that a financial person is not necessarily an accountant. The skill set of a financial person must include forecasting which is often a skill that accountants don't have time to cultivate -- yet is essential to business success.

This is a good high-level review for finance executives. The author did a good job of cramming what a CFO should know in a very (repeat, very) concise format and few pages.

I recommend this book for anyone who (1) has an advanced degree in accounting or finance or (2) is finance executive in industry for 10 or 15 years of experience. Use this book as a refresher of what a CFO should do.

About the Author
Dorothy Maclean a founder of the Findhorn community in Scotland. Her contacts there―what she came to see as the devic, or angelic, realms that “over-light” all aspects of existence―helped its legendary gardens flourish in a most unpromising climate and soil. Many of the messages from devas were first published in several books and pamphlets from Findhorn. Her autobiography, To Hear the Angels Sing, contains many of her communications with not only the plant essences, but also the elemental essences of minerals, animals and groups of humans.

Dorothy Maclean Continues Her Story

Dorothy Maclean, one of the cofounders of the Findhorn Foundation, writes of her experiences during the fifteen years after she published "To Hear The Angels Sing," her book telling of that community. She tells of her search for The Beloved, her name for "the eternal, complete love." She describes the love in all things -- plants, animals, rocks, trees, cities, fire -- as well as in humans. At Findhorn, she and others learned to use their powers of love to contact nature spirits, known as devas. The story of how she progressed in her ability to attune to nature spirits makes fascinating reading. For those like me who seem to take a long time to reach these levels, it is encouraging to know her learning took many years.
Maclean left Findhorn to return to her native Canada to apply her learning to ordinary living. She finds when she attunes to a situation with love, the solution is presented. When she accepts a fault or darker quality in herself, she feels divine love. I like the way she describes seeking balance in polarities. Part 2 of the book is devoted to her experiences with the souls of nature; how she contacts the divine essences of plants, volcanoes, hurricanes, the identities and souls of countries. She encourages us to do the same with loving contact, and assures us this is the way the planet will be saved. Her earlier book impressed me deeply. I enjoyed reentering her story and learning how she has continued to grow in love and consciousness through the years.

Vast consciousness in living with the cosmos and earth

Dorothy McClean presents herself in a very real way. After reading spiritual books, there are times that it is of head-value only in conceptual thinking, and can leave one out of sync in what is in application through the head and heart. One of Dorothy's attributes are given in honesty of real experiences where she has positives and negatives within her human experience, just as all have. This definitely takes it to a higher level of keeping it real. Not everyday is a rainbow, and through this - forces of love take on a valid meaning in objective love, not necessarily a personal or subjective love - good vs. evil is also brought into the light. This bridges something greater than ourselves in which we are all a part of in communion with the cosmos and nature here on our god-given planet. Dorothy also details her practices for attunement with life in many avenues, i.e., nature, cities, countries, one-on-one relationships to vastness of consciousness, and thus giving a renewal for what is timeless wisdom. I have ordered more of her books as a direct result of what I have experienced from Choices of Love for theory and application can be a living interest.

If you enjoyed her earlier books about Findhorn, plant spirits, devas, etc., you will LOVE this book! She goes into greater detail about how each tree, each house, each town, each nation, etc., has its own protective, guiding spirit or deva. A very comforting, enlightening and marvelous book.

I received this book yesterday. I read this book from cover to cover yesterday. I recommend this book to anyone who thinks we live in a perfect world. I recommend this book to anyone that has ever had any struggles in this world. Ernie's story of his faith journey and his message that there is hope in God is very impactful!

PS: Ernie, Blackberries are my favorite fruit!

As a man and father I am encouraged and challenged by reading of the "good fight" of another of my number. Ernie challenges me to be a better husband, father, employee, and man of faith. I will keep my eyes open for more blackberries.

Dang you Ernie Johnson, you got me to cry by reading this book!! A job well done!!

I ordered this book as I am familiar with Ernie Johnson's story from the documentary on ESPN, and from the many nights I watch him on TNT with Shaq, Kenny and Sir Charles. I am a physician with dyslexia have not read many books cover to cover, but I read this book over the weekend while spending some time in the mountains. It is a great read with an even better message as well as a unique insight to the man behind one of the best sports shows on television. Ernie, I don't know if the feelings I had while reading your book can be considered a "blackberry" but I'm counting it as one in my life. I'm not quite a "believer" but your book and life has brought me a whole lot closer. Thank you for opening your life to me and others like me, and I know my family will benefit from what I learned in your book. My sister has handicaps, and I wouldn't trade her for anything!

Despite the fast growing business, the pricing pressure has increased simultaneously. Experts advise suppliers to reduce costs as much as possible. Due to these facts, quality improvements and cost reductions are the major goals of the future. Value management and value analysis have very similar key intentions: function improvements and cost minimization. To assure the development of products, which fulfill the customer's needs and can be sold at the price the customer is willing to pay, value management needs to become an essential part of the development process. A key aspect of this is that eighty to ninety percent of a product's value is influenced during its design and development. This thesis gives an introduction to the basics and the importance of organizational impact of value management, including its efforts and benefits. After the characterization of the methods and tools a description of the capability and the distinction to target costing is shown. The following derivation starts with the standard development process and the design process according to VDI 2221, followed by the integrated product development and the specific features of APQP and VDA 4.3 - representing the automotive product development. After presenting already known approaches for the integration of value management into the development process, three new approaches are shown and discussed: using a novel construction kit, using a method integration or frontloading of value analysis, where value analysis activities are being set up at the outset.
