Excellent handbook

I love this book and have used it for years as the book to get my foundation design thinking headed in the right direction. My original copy is now somewhat bruised from all the use, annotation, highlighting and page flipping. It has broad scope and includes tables with data that would take much time to dig up from somewhere else. I think it is an excellent compilation of the broad scope of subjects a foundation engineer could need to tackle in any average day. Updating it makes sense to me.

I found this book to be very insightful in all things foundations; shallow, deep, etc. Joseph Bowles does an excellent job of bringing a very technical subject to novice engineers seeking to increase their knowledge base on such a complex subject. My preference would have been English units but the SI calculations throughout the book do not detract from its thoroughness of content coverage.

In my 1992 edition of Carrol& Graf .. Jennings name does not appear and if I were him I'dremove it from this tome and stick to Anonymous...
There are twosepearate stories in this book. Book one deals with an Englishnobleman beings starnded with six different women that are part of aharem and the captain. Between them they tell 14 tales and none ofthem really got a rise out of me
The second book is a story of a 16year old girl that is presented to a 34 year old englishman for theirstory and sexual education. It may be British but trust me if there'sno hunt and parry then whats the sense ...

Of the over 300 recipes included, one-half require only 30 minutes to prepare and many can be cooked in a microwave oven. There is a complete selection of recipes from appetizers to desserts, each with a complete calorie, protein, fat, carbohydrate, fiber, cholesterol, and sodium count but without the information about vitamins and minerals which appeared in the earlier book. Marans' play was later produced in England at the Bristol Old Vic and was later moved to the Gielgud Theatre in London's West End. Between March 31 and May 10, 2008, it was produced at its venue city, in Vienna's English theatre in Austria.

Phenomenal book from a very insightful and gifted author!

This is one of the best books/plays I have ever read. The author has great ability to take a tremendously painful subject, treat it with the respect it deserves, and show how his two vastly different characters can educate each other and learn from each other in many difficult but tender moments. The ribbons of circumstance, personalities, experiences, pain, talent, and, in the end, joy, flow through the story and finally come to parallel placements using Robert Schumann's composition, Dichterliebe, to gently weave through it and eventually pull it all together. Marans has given his two characters a good sense of humor to help cushion the pain. I learn something different each time I read through this book or even parts of it. I am a better, more empathetic person for reading this book and seeing the play.

Deep, believable, moving, amazing, and great!

I've seen the play twice and read the book. What a beauty! I've never seen a play before that took so little time for exposition or that gave us the necessary facts in such a natural way. The characters were interesting and their interaction was fascinating. Anyone who has ever been part of a superb teacher-student combination will adore this play. I felt I'd been waiting for it for years.

Christopher Gould (Ph.D and MA from University of South Carolina) is also a long-time professor at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, where he is currently Director of the Center for Faculty Leadership. He has also authored CRITICAL ISSUES ON CONTEMPORARY CULTURE (Longman, 1986).

This book is very resourceful, however my teacher changed the format to APA style, 6th edition, so I could only use this book for a short amount of time.
